Diwali - the Indian Festival of Lights. Diwali symbolises the victory of righteousness, the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and the renewal of life. Every year the Auckland Indian community in collaboration with the Auckland City Council celebrates Diwali and Indian culture by having a 2-day festival of light, colour, music, dance and delicious traditional food.
This year's Diwali Festival is taking place on Sat 30th and Sun 31st of October. This festival of light and colour fits in perfectly with the theme of the 2010 Northern Regional Convention - Rhythm of Light.
Diwali is being held in the newly redeveloped Aotea Square and Aotea Theatre, within walking distance from Rydges Hotel where the Rhythm of Light is being held. Diwali affords plenty of photographic opportunities and for those of you staying on after the convention, the festival wraps up with a fabulous fireworks display on Sunday night.
