Albert Park is a fabulous haven in the centre of the city, originally a military fortification, it became a public park in the 1880s with the layout designed by architect James Slater.
The park houses many statues and memorials including the first statue of Queen Victoria erected in New Zealand. Other interesting landmarks are the floral clock at the Princes Street entrance, a beautiful Victorian fountain and a bandstand from the early 1900s.
The park is very short walk (5-10mins) from Rydges Hotel. It stands on the Symonds Street ridge and is bounded by Wellesley Street East, Princes Street, Bowen Avenue and Kitchener Street.
