Light makes photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography — George Eastman
The Auckland Photographic Society is pleased to welcome you to the Rhythm of Light convention, an exciting weekend of informative presentations and workshops, and fun-filled field trips led by some of New Zealand's most renowned professional photographers. Check out the Programme here.
The keynote address will be given by internationally acclaimed Adventure and Travel photographer Chris McLennan. You may have read about Chris' work in the February 2010 issue of D-Photo. Chris has won numerous awards including National Geographic Great Outdoors Adventure Image of the Year in both 2009 & 2010 and Honours in the Black & White Spider Awards 2010. Chris was recently named as a Canon EOS Master, one of only eight in the region. Chris McLennan will also be presenting a workshop - "Have Camera, Will Travel" where he will share tips and techniques on travel and wildlife photography. Numbers for workshops are limited so get in quick!
Awarding winning photojournalist Geoff Dale will be talking about his career as a press photographer. Geoff has recorded some of the most iconic images from the past 40 years in New Zealand. The bombing of the Rainbow Warrior in 1985, the infamous "Fish and Chip Brigade" and Muhammad Ali shadow-boxing are just some of the images Geoff has taken. Geoff has recently published Press Pass, a retrospective of news and sports in New Zealand.
UNESCO World Heritage photographer Chris Morton will be talking about his adventures in the Middle East and professional film stills photographer Adam Baines will let us in on what goes on behind the scenes on a movie set.
We also have some fantastic workshops on offer. Fine Art Impressionist photographer Eva Polak will be presenting "Using Form, Light and Colour". NZIPP 2008 People Photographer of the Year Lisa Crandall has a hands-on workshop entitled "Playing with Time and Light" so don't forget to bring your camera. If you are interested in applying for PSNZ Honours, then Bruce Burgess's workshop "Going for Your Honours" is one you don't want to miss. For more information on workshops go here.
You can also show off your own photographic skills by entering the Northern Regional Print Salon. All prints gaining an Acceptance or higher will be exhibited at the Convention. See the Competitions page for more information.
